Carles Torner (Barcelona 1963) is a writer. He has published poetry, essay and narrative. Very soon he received the Amadeu Oller Prize with the poetry book
A la ciutat blanca (1984), and in the same year the Carles Riba Prize with
Als límits de la sal. Among his poetic work also stands out in
Viure després (1998), prize of the Critic of Catalan poetry or
La núvia d'Europa (2008). In 1997 he published the novel
L'estrangera. Among his essay books include
Shoah, una pedagogia de la memòria (2002), the result of a doctorate in Education Science at the University of Paris VIII on Claude Lanzmann's film. Also in 2005 hi publishes
L'arca de Babel, a set of letters addressed to different women activists around the world.
Current executive director of the
International PEN who was previously chairman of the
Committee on Translation and Linguistic Rights, from where he promoted the
Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights. He was also director of the area of Literature and Humanities of the
Institut Ramon Llull, an institution dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of Catalan language and culture.
On horseback between Barcelona and London, Torner continues to participate in the literria and Vint-i-set Nadals and a king is his latest book of poems.
