Vicent Partal (Betera, 1960). Journalist and director of Vilaweb, the most important digital newspaper in Catalan. He has worked in several media such as El Temps, a weekly magazine he founded in 1983, El Punt, Catalunya Ràdio and TVE. He has been a correspondent in countries in conflict from where he has lived crucial moments in history, from the fall of the Wall to the war of the Balkans or the revolt of students in Beijing. He is indisputably one of the pioneers of Internet in the Catalan countries. Thus, in 1994 he created El Temps Online, the first digital information system in Spain and in 1995, together with Assumpció Maresma, founded Vilaweb.
He has published several monographs on NATO and on nationalisms. His most recent books are Nou Homenatge a Catalunya (Ara Llibres), the journalistic chronicle of the events that brought the country to the proclamation of the Catalan Republic, and Fronteres (Comanegra, 2022), were Partal extends the world map before the reader's eyes to show that the official borders, these arbitrary lines, are not the only ones that govern the relationship between the human communities that make up the planet.
He has received numerous awards such as the Ciutat de Barcelona of Journalism (1999), the National Internet of the Generalitat de Catalunya (2000) or in 2015 the Valencian of the Year Prize by Fundació Huguet. He is president of the European Journalism Center based in Maastricht.
