The Day of the Bear

One day, Bernadette receives a fax in her Barcelona apartment informing her that her mother has committed suicide in her native town of Prats de Molló. She must go back to the town because the corpse of her mother will be judged and condemned, as Prats de Molló is a place ruled by fear and obedience to the French army, the same army who took over the town in the 18th century… The townspeople are not happy with her returning, as they forced her into exile eight years prior for having committed an immoral act.

Just a few days earlier another return has taken place, that of a bear from the Pyrenees after centuries of absence. Legend has it that when a bear comes back, the entire town will be disrupted…
